2. Is the WCC a 3-bid league this season?

Hope

I would say the WCC is a 2.6 bid league right now. There is a better chance that they get three bids than two, with Gonzaga, BYU and Saint Mary’s all getting rewarded. However, SMC’s frontcourt weakness and BYU’s historical inconsistency don’t make me 100% confident yet.

I have a hard time seeing it. Maybe I’m jaded from the many, many conversations about the WCC being a three-bid league that ultimately end with just Gonzaga making the tournament. While I believe BYU and SMC both have the skill to be tournament teams, I think both are susceptible to ugly conference losses to teams like Pepperdine, Santa Clara and Pacific, and one or two of those plus a loss in Vegas will put both those teams squarely on the roster bubble.

SMC has proven capable of losing to just about anybody, and the loss of Matthias Tass already challenges their depth – making them extra susceptible to an embarrassing loss or two – which is certainly enough to put them in the NIT.

BYU is the biggest question to get a bid. Besides Yoeli Childs, BYU does not have the strength inside. The Gaels seem to have found their replacement to Matthias Tass and I believe they will get a bid. Oh ya, Gonzaga will get a bid as well.
