Big West

The Big West conference will not be dominated by UC Irvine this season. The Anteaters were one of the best mid-majors in NCAA basketball last year. This year, things are different. They do not have the depth to command the league. Anybody will have the chance to take it from them.

1) UCSB vs. UC Irvine (2/8, 2/29)

Despite the fact they are not as dominate, UC Irvine is still the team to beat. UCSB can be the team to do that. These could be some intense games as UCSB is out on a mission, and UC Irvine is not yet to relinquish the conference throne.

Colonial

For the Colonial, the preseason buzz was around the College of Charleston. They have not performed as expected. They will still be competitive, but they are no longer the favorite.

1) Delaware vs. William and Mary (1/16, 2/15)

The two games between these squads feature two of the best players in the league. Delaware guard, Nate Darling (21.4 ppg), and W&M forward, Nathan Knight (19.9 ppg), will both have successful professional careers overseas. For now, they are fighting to give their team an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Conference USA

The Conference USA race will be very heavy at the top and extend until the very end of the regular season. In the conference tournament, there is no telling who will come out on top with the NCAA Tournament bid.

1) UTEP vs. Western Kentucky (2/13)

These squads have played the best so far in non-conference play. It is unfortunate we have to wait until mid-February to see them play. Western Kentucky center, Charles Bassey, is drawing attention from the NBA. UTEP will be out to shut him down. This will be a good one.

Horizon League

Once again, the two teams that have commanded the league the last few years will be at the very top again.

1) Wright State vs. Northern Kentucky (1/24, 2/28)

These two split games in the regular season last year. Then, Northern Kentucky was victorious over Wright State in the conference championship game. I think they split again in this year’s regular season, then meet for one final showdown in Indianapolis to see who gets the NCAA Tournament bid.
