American

The American has brought some exciting storylines in the non-conference play. Well, Memphis losing James Wiseman is not exciting news, but the fact that Memphis has played as well as they have given the circumstances is very incredible. The young talent of Memphis looks poised to win the conference and make a trip to the NCAA Tournament, but there are some more experienced teams in the league looking to prevent them from winning it.

3) Memphis vs. Cincinnati (1/16, 2/13)

Cincinnati is not playing very hot right now. At 7-5, they need to get it going or they are going to find themselves on the back-end of the bubble. Actually, they are already there. I think Cincinnati’s senior leadership is enough to make games with Memphis very close. They must win if they are able to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

2) Wichita State vs. Houston (1/18, 2/9)

Wichita State looks like the second-best team in the league. Houston looks to be up toward the front as well. Depending on how many teams from the American receive tournament bids, these two games are huge for the resumes of Houston and Wichita State.

1) Wichita State vs. Memphis (1/9, 3/5)

Both of these teams are confident they are the best in the league. They will head into the game on January 9th on a mission to show that the conference belongs to them. I think the Shockers and Tigers split this series prior to the conference tournament.
