SEC

The dynamic within the SEC this season is fairly different from how it was last year. A lot of the seniors that drove their teams to spectacular seasons and NCAA Tournament runs are gone. Due to that, the conference is not nearly as deep. Still, the SEC is far from predictable.

4) Tennessee vs. Kentucky (2/8, 3/3)

With four losses through twelve games, Tennessee is definitely not who they were last season. On top of that, Lamonte Turner’s absence certainly does not help. The Vols still do have the experience that can pull them through conference play with a solid record in order to get into the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky is still very young, and games against Head Coach, Rick Barnes’ Tennessee squad, is one that could provide a tough test for the Wildcats.

3) Kentucky vs. Florida (2/22, 3/7)

Florida has underachieved so far, and this young and talented Kentucky team is heading into conference play full of confidence. Florida is still very much an NCAA Tournament team, and if they play well in the SEC through the month of January, then I think the games between the Gators and Wildcats will be very great.

2) Alabama vs. Auburn (1/15, 2/12)

Auburn is still undefeated. Alabama, in its first year under Head Coach Nate Oats, is still trying to find itself. Nate Oats is the kind of guy that is capable of having his team ready for a state rival, regardless of how great that team is. I think Alabama will get on the right track and win the home game against Auburn on January 15th.

1) Auburn vs. Kentucky (2/1, 2/29)

Auburn is yet to be tested by a spectacular opponent. Despite their young age, Kentucky’s players have been forced to play in big games so far. This will make for some interesting matchups in February. I think these are the two teams to beat in the SEC, and I think they will split this series, each winning at home.
