9. John Beilein

In 2010, Beilein was three years into his term at Michigan and was just finishing a less than stellar 15-17 campaign. Obviously, the former head coach at Canisius, Richmond, and West Virginia was on the verge of something special.

Beilein elevated this program back towards the top of the Big Ten, leading the Wolverines to national title game appearances in 2013 and 2018. He won a pair of Big Ten titles, winning with talent like Trey Burke and Moritz Wagner causing some major damage. Once overshadowed by rival Michigan State, these Wolverines have certainly paved their own path in the Big Ten, making eight of the last nine NCAA Tournaments.

Those two national title game runs are currently the highlight of Beilein’s decade. Clearly, he’d be higher on the list if one of those games had ended in Michigan’s forever, but he still built a number of incredible teams. His last three seasons with the Wolverines ended in the second weekend or later of the Tournament and he had certainly come a long way in rebuilding this program back into a Big Ten power.

Beilein recently departed for the Cleveland Cavaliers, sending him into the next decade with brand new challenges. Time will tell if he one day returns to the college game, but the legacy he left behind at Michigan these past few years will not soon be forgotten. Any coach who takes his program that far into the Tournament with two completely different teams clearly deserves a spot on a list like this.
