4. Roy Williams

Fresh off rejuvenating this North Carolina program, Williams followed up a pair of national titles with his third entry into Tar Heel lore in 2017. The former Kansas head coach has continued to establish himself as one of the greatest coaches in the history of this sport, and the last ten years were no different.

With an exception to 2010, where the Tar Heels rebuilt following a national title run, North Carolina was a national power on a yearly basis. They’ve been in the last nine NCAA Tournaments and been top 3 in the ACC all but one of those seasons. Williams has brought talented names like Marcus Paige and Coby White to Chapel Hill on a regular basis and it has paid off in a big way.

The obvious highlight is that 2017 title run, fresh off losing the 2016 title game on Kris Jenkin’s buzzer-beater for Villanova. Williams put together a talented squad and put them in perfect position to win not only the ACC but his third NCAA championship. Six times Williams led this team to the second weekend of the Tournament but it all clearly paid off with that championship run.

a ton of wins, some at college basketball’s biggest stage, and Williams has definitely asserted himself among the best. This program is consistently near the top of the rankings, though this season’s injuries have put a damper on the decade’s end. Fortunately, I think there’s little doubt that Williams will put together another championship-level team in the coming seasons.
