NCAA Basketball: Top 25 impact transfers so far in 2019-20 season
15. Nate Darling – Delaware
2019-20 stats: 21.1 ppg 3.9 rpg 3.0 apg
He figured to be an impact player this season for the Blue Hens, sitting out last year after averaging 10.1 ppg at UAB. But few could’ve seen his massive production through the non-conference, leading the team in scoring 20+ points eight times that including a career-high 37 points in a win over Texas-San Antonio. If Darling continues to play like this, Delaware will be a tough out in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
14. Kendric Davis – SMU
2019-20 stats: 15.4 ppg 4.6 rpg 7.3 apg
The Mustangs got their Christmas present early this year, getting the TCU transfer eligible after missing the first seven games of the season. He’s been fantastic in the eight games since being able to play, one of four players averaging at least 14 ppg. Now as the lead facilitator, SMU might have the best overall offense outside of Memphis in the AAC. You have to wonder whether Coach Jamie Dixon at TCU made a mistake playing him just 17 mpg.
Had Davis been putting up these numbers all season, he’d easily be in the top-5 on this list. But if he keeps it up the rest of the way and helps SMU get back to the NCAA Tournament anyway, then he’ll be the most positive surprise transfer result this season.
13. JaQuan Lyle – New Mexico
2019-20 stats: 16.9 ppg 4.3 rpg 4.5 apg
He’s technically not a transfer from his offseason but considering that he missed all of last year with an injury, Lyle is best of the best impact newcomers for a respective program this season. The Ohio State transfer leads the Lobos in both scoring and passing and has a pair of 31-point games so far. With a pair of starters out for the foreseeable future and possibly the rest of the season, Lyle will have to up his game even more to keep New Mexico near the top of the Mountain West.
