5. Over/under 6 bids for the ACC this season?

Stearman

Under. Six is a good possibility, but I couldn’t in good conscience go with the over. If the season ended today, I think there would only be five bids awarded to the ACC. Duke, Louisville, Florida State, and NC State all appear to be solidly in the tournament field at this time, but how confident are you that even Virginia is a lock? The Cavaliers have been thoroughly beaten by Purdue and South Carolina, and their best win is over an unraveling UNC team. I think whichever team between Virginia, UNC, and Pitt ends with the best conference record will likely get a bid, with around 50/50 odds of two of those teams making the tournament.

I’ll say under…but I don’t like it. I also don’t like the over. Duke, Louisville, and Florida State should all get in and do so relatively safely. After that, I like the odds of NC State and Virginia as well to get the league to five. Leaving North Carolina out, even with how poorly they have performed, feels wrong and will be wrong if Cole Anthony comes back to play. But I don’t see a seventh team getting in, so the under has a better chance of coming to fruition.

Well, I think six is probably the right answer. But if the number is going to move off that line, I think I would take the under. I will be surprised if UNC doesn’t pull things together, but I’m not sold on NC State as a tournament lock right now. At this moment, the ACC can count on Duke, Louisville, Florida State, and Virginia for bids. Teams like Virginia Tech, Miami, and Notre Dame still have a shot at at-large bids, but the windows are closing.
