Best Performance, Individual – Ian DuBose, Houston Baptist

You may be surprised to see a player from Houston Baptist in this section. It has been a tough start to the season for the Huskies, who were the last remaining winless team in the country heading into their matchup with Central Arkansas on Thursday night.

But thanks to the heroics of Ian DuBose, Houston Baptist is no longer winless. The junior, who is the Southland Conference’s leading scorer at 19.1 points per game, 44 points in a 111-107 overtime win to finally put the Huskies in the win column.

DuBose was not just gunning for points in a long game either. He was very efficient, shooting 15-23 from the field and 12-16 from the free throw line. He also led the team with 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals for good measure.

Stephen F. Austin’s Kevon Harris is probably the favorite to take home the Southland Player of the Year award due to the classic best player on the best team corollary, but DuBose is making his case for heavy All-Conference First Team consideration despite his team’s struggles so far this year.
