Kansas just continues to take care of their business this year, ranking No. 3 in the country with a 12-2 record. Their only losses came against ranked teams (Duke, Villanova) and were by a combined three points.

It’s safe to say that maybe they haven’t gotten the hype or publicity they deserve through the first half of the season, and the same can be said for Devon Dotson.

The sophomore point guard has been absolutely electric and is making a significant impact all over the court whether it be his scoring, playmaking, or his defense. While he has improved in all three areas, his scoring has taken the biggest leap – he’s leading the Big 12 in that category – and has become KU’s leader, according to head coach Bill Self.

"“He’s leading the league in scoring, which is a shocker to me that he would be doing that. And to be honest with you, I see him continuing to score at the same clip. … “I think he’s outside his comfort zone. I think he’s confident in where he is so he’s not worried about if he screws up or if I get on him. That stuff doesn’t even register to him anymore like it may have last year. So I think from an intangibles standpoint he’s trying.”"

Dotson’s increased role, production, and Kansas’ success has earned the Charlotte native a spot in the National Player of the Year conversation, but he still has some ground to cover before he’s a contender. Why? He hasn’t been dominant in some of KU’s biggest games, especially their two losses. He needs a “Heisman moment” or two for his candidacy to really take off.
