The Shockers are the Real Deal

Before this game, there was still room to doubt just how good Wichita State really was. They lost their only game against a top 25 team and only had two wins over teams who are even in the discussion to crack the rankings. Now, they have a win over a team that was in the top 10 just a

week ago. In fact, if a shorthanded Memphis hadn’t lost to Georgia, we’d probably be talking about this win launching Wichita State into at least the top 15.

The manner in which they won proves that Wichita State is on the same level as many of the top teams in the country. This was a game against a top 25 team and the Shockers led for 39 minutes and 50 seconds of the game. The final score really doesn’t tell how dominant the Shockers were in this game.

Most of this game was controlled by the Shockers. they quickly built themselves a double-digit lead and were ahead by double digits for most of the second half. The only reason the narrative coming out of this game isn’t about how the Shockers demolished Memphis is because they went cold near the end of the game and gave Memphis a glimmer of hope that they quickly extinguished.

Since this game occurred between two teams in the AAC, it won’t garner the Shockers the respect they deserve, but it should tell anybody who watched it that people once again need to keep their eyes on in March for Wichita State.
