Oregon Basketball: 2019-20 takeaways from home win over Arizona State
2. Ducks’ depth is a strength
The Oregon Ducks have the deepest roster in the Pac-12 and they still are not yet to full strength. In addition, Coach Altman is well known for developing his teams to peak in February and March.
6’11 230-pound freshman N’Faly Dante is still a potential NBA lottery pick in the making. Due to ineligibility, Dante was not able to even be with the club until Dec. 14, the day the Ducks defeated Michigan. He did not play in Ann Arbor but got finally got in some practice and made his debut against Montana on Dec. 18.
Against Arizona State, Dante only got in 18 minutes of playing time despite starting center Francis Okoro fouling out in only 11 minutes of play. Dante was caught out of position in Altman’s complex multiple defenses more than once which has caused himself to get in foul trouble. Altman went to fellow freshman Chandler Lawson down the stretch against the Sun Devils.
Although he scored a career-high 21 points against Arizona, 6’5 sophomore Will Richardson has also been a bright spot with his defensive play. Richardson comes off the bench to average 11.1 ppg in almost 28 minutes.
Junior Chris Duarte has started to come alive. He is averaging 18.4 ppg in their last five games. 6’8 freshman C.J. Walker started in half of his 14 games played. He has missed the Ducks’ last three games due to a back injury.
6’7 Shakur Juiston has returned to the starting lineup after missing five games to injury in December. Juiston scored his 11 points by shooting 5 for 5 to go along with nine rebounds against Arizona State.
