8-10 (3-5). . Yellow Jackets . 12. team. 436.

Georgia Tech picked up a 71-52  blowout win over Boston College on January 11. In the win, three Georgia Tech starters scored in double figures and the Yellow Jackets shot 50.9% from the field. Moses Wright has been particularly impressive as of late, racking up an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double in the win over the Eagles and going back further, 22 points and 7 rebounds in a win over North Carolina.

Their last two losses to Virginia and Notre Dame come by a combined nine points. In the loss to the Fighting Irish, Wright chipped in 16 points and received some help in the form of a big-time 22-point performance from sophomore Michael DeVoe. But the Yellow Jackets couldn’t hit anything from deep (26.7% from 3-point range) and it was ultimately their downfall, a familiar story.

The Yellow Jackets’ loss to Virginia hurt their cases for a big leap in our ACC power rankings, as wins over North Carolina and Virginia over their last five games would’ve looked impressive no matter what year it is. Instead, the Yellow Jackets are still in need of a signature win. Wright was stymied against Virginia’s pack-line defense, scoring seven points on 30% shooting. But games Louisville and NC State will be tough on Wright as they have physical big men that will make Wright work.  The Yellow Jackets are a tough team to beat when their guards are in a groove, which isn’t a consistent occurrence.

The win over Boston College showed how tough Georgia Tech can be when they are imposing their will in the paint, opening up things for their guards DeVoe (15.9 points per game) and Jose Alvarado (11.3 points per game)
