NCAA Basketball Power Rankings: Seton Hall soars, Auburn drops
It doesn’t feel as though Villanova is playing tremendously well right now but it just keeps winning games. In fact, the Wildcats have won 10 of their last 11 contests as they just keep finding ways to win. During this past week, the Wildcats were pushed to overtime by DePaul at home before narrowly squeaking that one out. They then followed that up with another hard-fought home win over UConn. Both results wound up in the win column, though, so it’s hard to be too upset.
With those two victories, Villanova moved to 14-3 (4-1 BE) on the season. The Wildcats are definitely a top-tier team in the Big East and a legitimate contender for the conference title. They also have a big opportunity coming up as they host Butler on Jan. 21st. Winning that game would put Villanova right behind Seton Hall in the standings and significantly drop Butler’s hopes of a BE title.
Villanova still ranks among the best offenses in the country and that is largely due to its balanced attack. Saddiq Bey and Collin Gillespie appear to be the most consistent scoring leaders for the team but they are far from alone. Anyone in the rotation can step up for a double-figure performance on any given night. That is what makes this team potentially special.
