. Stanford Cardinal. 22. player. 517. .

Stanford embarked on a two-game road trip to South Cali during this past week and escaped with solid results. After taking down UCLA in their first game of the trip, the Cardinal then fell to USC on the road in the following performance. I am much higher on the Trojans than most in the country but this was still a disappointing loss considering the Cardinal had once led by 21 points. Still, it only dropped Stanford to 16-3 (4-1 P12) on the year and that is worthy is inclusion in my Top 25.

I am a huge believer in the freshman duo of Tyrell Terry and Spencer Jones as budding stars of this squad on the offensive end of the floor while Oscar Da Silva has been excellent as a veteran scoring leader in the frontcourt. More than anything, though, Stanford has been superb defensively throughout the majority of this season. The Cardinal currently boast the 15th-best adjusted defensive efficiency rating in the country and that is the biggest reason for their rise nationally.

Stanford started this season ranked at No. 92 on KenPom. It now sits at No. 34.

There is no denying that the Cardinal have exceeded most expectations since the opening tip of this campaign. With Oregon struggling a bit as of late, the door is open for someone to swoop in and steal the Pac-12 regular-season title. Stanford and USC are currently the only teams atop the league with an early 4-1 record.
