NBA Draft 2020: Shakeup among frontcourt players in January mock draft
No. 7 Minnesota Timberwolves – Isaac Okoro, 6’6″ 225lbs, SF, Auburn
Okoro has been one of the biggest risers over the course of the college basketball season, Minnesota can nab a tough wing to pair with KAT and Wiggins.
Isaac Okoro has emerged as the best player on a surprisingly good Auburn team. Okoro’s numbers aren’t eye-popping: 12.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game on 53.7 percent from the field and 25 percent form deep, but the Tigers are 15-2 and ranked No. 16 in the country.
Once again, college guys who emerge as the best players on good teams always seem to do well at the next level. Think players such as Draymond Green, Gary Harris, or even more recently contributors like Grant Williams. Okoro looks like the next potential player to fit into this mold.
He’s an athletic freak and should be a high-level defender in the NBA from day one. Whether it’s on the ball, off the ball, or getting into passing lanes Okoro is going to be ahead of schedule on that end of the floor. Offensively, his athleticism will help, but his jump shot will need to catch up to make him a real threat.
Okoro’s slashing is a plus and it’s easier to teach shooting than anything else, so that bodes well for both Okoro and the Wolves should they nab him. Of course, this pick might change if the Wolves can’t trade for a point guard which they’ve long been rumored to want to do, but we’ll see how their roster looks come June.
