Illinois Basketball: 3 takeaways in Fighting Illini road win over Michigan
By Ryan Kay
Ayo Dosunmu did it all in this game
Dosunmu had an outstanding game in leading the Fighting Illini to a 64-62 victory over the Wolverines. He made an amazing game-winning shot on the road which was very impressive, to say the least. Dosunmu is a sophomore who a productive player as a freshman averaging just under 14 points a game last season. This season, he is Illinois leading scorer and he showed in this game that is should be seriously considered for the 1st team All-Big Ten team this year.
In the win over Michigan, Dosunmu scored 27 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. He also shot 100% from the free throw line and 66.7% from beyond the three-point arch. He played a game-high 38 minutes and at times look unguardable on offense. Not saying a star was born this game but Dosunmu showed that he is easily one of the top four players in the Big Ten after this great performance against the Wolverines.
The argument is not that Dosunmu won the game by himself because his teammates like Trent Frazier who made three 3 pointers in the game and another teammate Andres Feliz added 15 points with 7 rebounds in the game and played big roles in the victory over Michigan. However, Dosunmu showed tremendous leadership and great poise and focus in this game. He is the player that not only you need to win a conference championship but also to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
