Obi Toppin has all but secured his place as a first-team All-American and top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. There simply isn’t anything the 6-9, 220-pounder can’t do, and he shows it on a nightly basis.
He was key in Dayton’s overtime win over Saint Louis last week, recording a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) as he kept the Flyers within striking distance while the rest of his teammates struggled to score during the game’s first 30 minutes.
He followed that up with 18 points (on 9/11 shooting) and nine rebounds in a blowout win over St. Bonaventure, but what performance against the Billikens is exactly what Toppin provides for the Flyers.
The redshirt sophomore is a legitimate go-to guy who can carry them when they need him to. Dayton is an excellent team with a tremendous supporting cast, but Toppin’s play is the reason they’re a top 10 team and why they haven’t lost a game in regulation yet.
As long as Dayton wins the A-10, Toppin is going to be among the leaders on this list.
