Jalen Smith sets career-high scoring marks in back-to-back games
One game after dropping a personal-best 25 points to go with 11 rebounds versus Northwestern, Jalen Smith showed up once again for the Terps. He put up 29 points, highlighted by 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
Smith’s ability to continue his excellent play was certainly a key for Maryland entering the game. He opened the game with two quick three-point shots and scored four of Maryland’s final seven points as they pulled out the victory in the closing seconds.
Since the beginning of the new year, Stix has shown a consistent ability to knock down the three, shooting 14-24 from distance in that span. His evolution into a legitimate perimeter threat has not only covered for the Terrapins’ gaudy 3-point percentage this season but has also resurrected his draft stock, some suggesting that he may be playing his way into becoming an NBA lottery pick.
The usually-reserved Smith has also played with some emotion these last couple of games, interacting with both sets of fans in his two career-best performances. Coach Turgeon intervened in Smith’s taunting of the Indiana supporters after the win was sealed. Smith tweeted out an apology for his behavior following the game.
Despite his unacceptable behavior following the win, Maryland fans may be excited to see the star forward play with confidence as he continues to show up big for his team.
