NCAA Basketball Power Rankings: Illinois rises, Dayton keeps impressing

LSU just keeps finding ways to win close games and there’s no real way to describe it. While the Tigers have not exactly dominated the eye test in recent weeks, they are currently in the midst of an eight-game winning streak in which it appears as though they are immune to taking losses. The team deserves a ton of credit for constantly pushing to succeed in crunch time, but here are LSU’s last six results:
- W: LSU 79, Arkansas 77
- W: LSU 60, Mississippi State 59
- W: LSU 89, Texas A&M 85 (OT)
- W: LSU 80, Ole Miss 76
- W: LSU 84, Florida 82
- W: LSU 69, Texas 67.
That’s right. LSU has won six straight games by a combined 18 points and their largest margin of victory came in a game that went to overtime. That is just ridiculous. Yet, since the Tigers have consistently been able to handle their business in these incredibly close games, they remain firmly entrenched in my Top 25. Even though they haven’t looked at that great, the results back up the fact that they belong.
LSU currently sits at 15-4 (6-0 SEC) on the year and has emerged as a legitimate contender to win the SEC title. As things stand right now, it doesn’t appear as though anyone can beat the Tigers. They will just find a way to pull out any and every close game that they are competing in.
