NCAA Basketball: Top 10 most watchable teams midway through 2019-20 season
By Max Hastings
9. Dayton
Probably the biggest surprise of this year’s college basketball, the Flyers have had a monster first half of the season. Led by their big man and Naismith POY contender Obi Topin, the Flyers own a 16-2 record and are undefeated 6 games into conference play. For Dayton, it’s their offense that has made them so dominant. They are #1 in the nation in offensive watchability, ranking 1st in Effective Field Goal percentage, 2nd in offensive rating and 18th in Assists per Field Goals Made.
They don’t play lightning fast like aforementioned Arizona (200th in Pace of Play), but the Flyers are dangerously efficient and always seem to get the best shot possible. Alongside Topin, they also host one of the best backcourts in the entire nation in Trey Landers, Ibi Watson and Jalen Crutcher. Each of these guards shoot over 40% from three and own a True Shooting percentage of over 60%, giving them a deadly outside game to go with Obi Topin’s dominant post-game.
While they leave a lot to be desired on the defensive end (rank 202nd in defensive watchability), this is one of the most efficient and well-rounded offenses in recent memory and should be very appealing to fans of that side of the ball.
