Big East Basketball Power Rankings: Seton Hall on top, Butler recovering
St. John’s might be the most likely team in the bottom-half of the Big East right now to actually reach the NCAA Tournament. While the Red Storm have not performed well in the conference schedule, their non-conference victories over West Virginia and Arizona are carrying their resume in a very big way.
They currently hold a 13-9 (2-7 BE) record with their lone wins since the turn of the decade coming over DePaul. So while the Red Storm remain firmly in the bubble conversation, they absolutely need to pick up their current level of play.
It’s also important to note that St. John’s is about to enter arguably its easiest stretch of schedule within the Big East season. I’m not trying to say the next few weeks will be “easy” by any stretch, but the team has a good chance to pull off a few much-needed wins for its resume. Here is a quick overview of St. John’s next four games:
- vs. Georgetown on Feb. 2nd
- at Creighton on Feb. 8th
- vs. Providence on Feb. 12th
- vs. Xavier on Feb. 17th
This stretch is particularly important because the Red Storm’s closing schedule is very difficult. If they are not able to win 2-3 of their next four, dancing in March will be nearly impossible. They need a way to pick up wins as well as garner momentum heading into their final five games.
