Big 12 Basketball power rankings: Baylor holds strong, Texas moves up
6. TCU Horned Frogs
Record: 13-8, 4-4 Conference
Here we have the most surprising team of the early season in the Big 12, the TCU Horned Frogs.
An overwhelming favorite to finish in last in the conference, the Horned Frogs have split their first eight games of conference play, picking up a big upset win over Texas Tech, and a nice win Iowa State at home.
The Horned Frogs have been carried by Desmond Bane, who is in the thick of the Big 12 Player of the Year race. Kevin Samuel has shown up in big games in his sophomore year, but the lack of depth behind the Horned Frogs’ duo has been the reason for many blowout losses.
However, the Frogs were able to stick with Baylor on Saturday, cutting an 18-point deficit down to six in the second half before losing. This team has shown flashes, but the Frogs will need to show out on the road in February, where they have only been able to win one game all season.
TCU has cinderella story written all over them, but until they can beat a Kansas or Baylor-level team, the Frogs lack the resume to even have the chance to compete as a cinderella in the tournament.
