NCAA Basketball: 10 most versatile playmakers of 2019-20 season
1. Obi Toppin | Dayton | F | Sophomore |
Most NCAA Basketball fans would agree that Obi Toppin has impressed more than anyone in America this season. The Sophomore from Dayton has helped turn the Flyers into not only a threat in the Atlantic 10 but at the national level as well.
He averages 19.7 ppg while shooting just under 63% from the field. His scoring ability is a product of both his fiery attitude and his physical play, and he is capable of scoring effectively from anywhere on the floor.
Beyond scoring, Toppin impacts the game by grabbing 8.0 rebounds per game, and he is also an excellent defender. At 6’9, his size and ability to move well give him the defensive edge and allow him to block shots and pick up key steals.
Where his overall stat line may not be overwhelmingly greater than that of other players like him in NCAA Basketball, his confidence as a court commander sets him apart from the rest of the players in the country, including the other nine guys on this list.
Others can certainly command the court and win games when it matters, but Toppin’s competitive nature makes him the very best in the game. He is also one of the few remaining contenders in the race for Player of the Year.
If Dayton is in a tight game, there is no doubt that Toppin will be given the green light to take the final shot. There isn’t another guy in America that I would want to take it.
Watch out for Obi Toppin and Dayton when the NCAA Basketball Tournament begins.
