NCAA Basketball: 10 most versatile playmakers of 2019-20 season
5. Luka Garza | Iowa | C | Junior |
When referring to statistical dominance this NCAA Basketball season, Iowa’s Luka Garza is the most dominant center in the country. He is without a doubt the best center in the Big Ten this year.
He leads the Hawkeyes in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 23.0 ppg and 10.4 rpg. His 23.0 points per contest are great enough to have him sitting at 6th nationally in scoring. This great number is due to his exceptional playing ability down low and his field goal percentage of 54.6.
In addition to his scoring ability in the post and his rebounding, Garza is a great shot blocker and even has the ability to get hot from behind the arc. In Iowa’s home victory over #19 Michigan on January 17th, Garza had 33 points, went 2/3 from beyond the arc, and shot 11/13 from the free throw line. He could not be stopped.
Garza’s frontcourt IQ is second to none, and Iowa’s Big Ten opponents have struggled trying to stop him, and they will continue to struggle with this task throughout the rest of the season. The Hawkeyes are a huge threat all around, but Garza sets them up as a team that could potentially run through the Big Ten tournament when March rolls around. Also, watch out for Garza and the Hawkeyes in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
