Mid-major Basketball power rankings: Rhode Island, New Mexico State make moves
16. Wofford Terriers (16-8, 8-3 in SoCon)
Part of the quartet of teams at the top of the Southern Conference, Wofford has struggled the most against teams closer to the bottom. They lost to Chattanooga and Western Carolina on the road but will get a chance to avenge those defeats in the next week, with both of them coming at home.
These next three games are must-win for the Terriers before facing a massive gauntlet against the top teams at the end of the regular season. If Chevez Goodwin continues to average over 23 ppg as he has in the past three matchups, Wofford will be good enough to compete against the other top three teams.
15. Wright State (20-5, 10-2 in Horizon League)
The top-10 scoring offense for Wright State has been great all season, including in league play. The defense has been solid overall but recently took a downturn in the last few games. That included giving up 92 points in a three-point loss at Green Bay, as well as 86 points versus Detroit Mercy. Good thing they scored 96 to win that matchup, led by 25 points from Billy Wampler.
The more important game from the last couple of weeks was the 95-63 beatdown over Northern Kentucky. They’re the only team within two games of Wright State in the Horizon League standings, with the return game in the regular-season finale on the 28th. By then, the Raiders will probably have the title wrapped up by then.
