NCAA Basketball Power Rankings: Penn State soaring, LSU falls
Creighton split its two games during this past week by falling on the road to Providence then returning home and taking down St. John’s. That was a relatively predictable pair of results and it’s hard to punish the Bluejays all that much. While many might point to Providence’s poor record and bubble standing, it is impossible to ignore how well that team has been playing as of late.
It matters “when” you play a team and Creighton ran into Providence at the wrong time to take a victory. Creighton, in my opinion, belongs firmly among the Top 25 teams in the nation.
With the talented backcourt trio of Marcus Zegarowski, Mitch Ballock, and Ty-Shon Alexander leading the way, the Bluejays feature one of the best offenses in the entire nation. They shoot the ball exceptionally well from beyond the arc and have completely immersed themselves into small-ball basketball.
Creighton does not boast a ton of size but makes up for this with quickness and athleticism. Their small-ball forwards do an excellent job holding their own against tough matchups and that makes this team very dangerous.
Creighton has not made a deep run in the NCAA Tournament in a very long time. The Bluejays are a lock to dance at this point and are healthy enough to win a few games in March. Is this team going to be Sweet 16 bound in a month? It’s a possibility.
