NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga, Jalen Harris top mid-major performers

Best Performance, Individual – Jalen Harris, Nevada
In the void left behind by the departures of the Martin twins and Jordan Caroline, Jalen Harris has stepped up big time. The Wolf Pack are a far cry from last year’s Final Four dark horse, and then ultimately disappointing postseason, team. But Harris and holdovers Jazz Johnson and Lindsey Drew have kept Nevada afloat after a major talent exodus both on and off the court (head coach Eric Musselman also left for Arkansas) from a stacked team.
In true Nevada fashion, Harris has become the team’s best player in his first season with the team after transferring from Louisiana Tech. This past week, Harris led the Wolf Pack to a much-needed pair of Mountain West wins. On Saturday, he scored 32 points on 13-23 shooting (5-10 from three-point range) and added five rebounds and three assists in a 95-77 win over San Jose State. On Tuesday, the guard scored 38 points on 12-21 shooting (6-8 from behind the arc) with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in an 88-54 blowout win over Air Force.
Even with the weak bubble this season, Nevada is not on it. So, every regular-season win matters at this point for them to avoid San Diego State in the MWC Tournament for as long as possible.
