The mid-majors made their presence felt in the first NCAA committee bracket reveal of the season. As mentioned before, Gonzaga was third in the rankings, joined by San Diego State (still the number one team in the NET rankings) at four and Dayton at six.
Those three teams are solidly in, but there are several mid-majors fighting for bubble spots, especially in the competitive A10. Dayton and Duquesne both took care of business against a solid Saint Louis team, probably knocking the Billikens out of contention. But then St. Bonaventure beat the Dukes on Saturday. The league is cannibalizing itself, except for Rhode Island who just keeps winning.
Yale probably blew their shot at an at-large bid, losing at home to Harvard by one point. Northern Iowa, however, took care of their rival at home, beating Drake by 10 thanks to 34 points from A.J. Green. And ETSU made up for last week’s loss to Mercer by beating them on the road.
The Buccs are going to have to fight in the SoCon Tournament with the likes of UNC Greensboro, Furman, and even Wofford, so they need to shore up their resume by winning out in the regular season just in case a loss before the final happens.
