Texas Longhorns – Sell

As it stands right now the Texas Longhorns are going to miss the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. Shaka Smart is likely to be out of a job and Texas will be on the way to finding a new coach. Texas is one of the more disappointing teams in the entire country. Most of their roster from the NIT championship team was back and guard Andrew Jones was back from his battle with leukemia.

The Longhorns returned their point guard Matt Coleman, Center Jericho Sims, guards Courtney Ramey and Andrew Jones and forward Kamaka Hepa. The Longhorns are anemic to scoring points and in one of the more perplexing decisions ever coach Smart has completely abandoned everything that made him one of the hottest names on the coaching market at VCU. Smart prided himself on defense and his Havoc style was hard to crack and helped lead VCU to a final four. Texas has never run the Havoc defense and they could do so as the pool of players in which to choose from is greater.

Texas is 2-8 in quad one with their signature win coming at Purdue. That is an impressive win, but every other team Texas has played that will be in the NCAA tournament has beaten them. It is hard to make a case for them to belong in the field of 68 when they can’t beat teams who are going to be in the field. Texas looks destined once again for the NIT and even that is not a certainty as they don’t have the wins. Their resume is empty, and they are going to pay for it, regardless of how many overall wins they end up with.
