Maryland Terrapins

2019-20 record: 21-4 (11-3 in Big Ten)

What’s been a logjam in the Big Ten standings for over a month now, has gotten clearer… at least at the very top. There are nine teams with either six or seven losses in league play, while Penn State (4) and Maryland (3) are a couple of steps ahead of them. For the Terps, in particular, this past week sets them up for possibly a No. 1 seed.

It definitely wasn’t easy though. Earlier in the week, Maryland had to fight hard to avoid losing to lowly Nebraska at home, winning 72-70. A loss to the Cornhuskers would’ve been bad for their aspirations of being a top-2 seed but they may have been looking ahead to Saturday’s game against Michigan State, who had been sliding recently.

It was a game of runs in East Lansing, with Maryland getting the early lead before a massive run by the Spartans to take control late in the second half. However, the Terps had one last run in them, finishing out the game with 14 uncontested points to win, 67-60.

It’s another Quad 1 win for Maryland, who have now won eight straight games overall, four of them being on the road. In a league that’ll get anywhere between 10-12 bids in the NCAA Tournament, the top team will have a case of being at worst, a No. 2 seed. And if the Terrapins can somehow go on a major run and ultimately win the Big Ten Tournament, they might propel themselves on the 1 line, if someone can lose a couple of games.
