6) SEC bubble teams can’t stay out of their own way

The SEC has three NCAA Tournament locks in Auburn, Kentucky, and LSU. Outside of that, though, there are a lot of bubble teams that can’t be feeling too good about themselves.

Florida was ranked No. 6 in the preseason yet hasn’t been ranked since the second week of the season and is currently one of the last eight teams in the field, according to our bracketologist Lukas Harkins. They also have an extremely tough schedule remaining with games against Arkansas, LSU, and two against Kentucky still to go.

Speaking of Arkansas, a loss to Mississippi State on Saturday was their fourth straight and dropped them to 4-8 in conference play after only suffering one loss in non-conference action. The Bulldogs are also out as of now as they’re only 5-7 in Quad 1 & 2 games and lost by 25 to Ole Miss earlier this week.

Alabama was also surging a few weeks ago after beating Kansas State to move to 12-7, yet they have lost four of their last six games.

Tennessee hasn’t really been in contention since point guard Lamonte Turner went out for the season with a shoulder injury and South Carolina, currently sitting at fourth in the conference, is the only team in the SEC with two Quad 4 losses (Boston University, Stetson).

None of these teams have been able to find the momentum they need to get on the right side of the bubble, making it a real possibility that the conference only gets three teams into the tournament. My guess is they’ll get at least four, but none of these SEC bubble teams are doing themselves any favors.
