Richmond Spiders (19-6, 9-3 in Atlantic 10)

Dayton has been the top team in the Atlantic 10 all season but there are a few teams behind them that are capable of tripping up the Flyers and riding a wave of momentum into March. One of those teams is Chris Mooney’s Richmond Spiders, the Spiders are currently 19-6 and 9-3 in the conference, three games behind the frontrunning Flyers.

Richmond was able to notch non-conference wins over the likes of Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, but a two-game losing streak, which included a 15-point loss to Radford to finish out their slate halted their momentum. They began Atlantic 10 play winning four straight, but ran into those Flyers on January 25 and were unable to bounce back at VCU in their next game.

Since then, however, the Spiders have won four straight including getting revenge on VCU on Saturday. With just one game remaining against a team currently close to them in the standings, at St. Bonaventure on Feb. 22, the Spiders have a nice chance to be riding high when the calendar turns to March.

Offensively the team is led by their four double-digit scorers who are all juniors, Blake Francis, Jacob Gilyard, Grant Golden, and Nick Sherod, with Francis’ 17.2 being the top number. If Richmond can use their remaining schedule to their advantage, other Atlantic 10 teams will have to keep one eye on Dayton but they better make sure they don’t get bit by the Spiders.
