Mountain West Basketball power rankings: Utah State, Nevada rises on up
By John Vaccaro
1. San Diego State (-)
The shakeups stop here. In fact, San Diego State made it mathematically impossible for me to put anybody else in this spot for the rest of the season. On Wednesday night, they clinched the Mountain West regular-season title. On Sunday, they followed that up by dominating Boise State on the road in one of the last matchups that actually posed a threat to their undefeated regular season.
The win at Boise State was yet another impressive performance that will make it really difficult to imagine any team actually bringing this SDSU run to an end before they hit the NCAA tournament.
They have three games left to complete the Mountain West’s first perfect regular season. These three games are home against UNLV, home against Colorado State, and at Nevada. Of those three, the only one that seems like a real threat to end this run is the game at Nevada.
It is still hard to picture SDSU falling short in their last game of the season with history on the line. I expect that we are going to see an inspired SDSU over the next couple of weeks and I will be absolutely shocked if SDSU doesn’t enter the Mountain West tournament with that 0 still intact.
