3) Indiana Hoosiers

Speaking of pressure and scrutiny, may I present Indiana?

Indiana is one of the best jobs in the sport and is one of the sport’s signature programs. For as good of a career as Beilein has had, he hasn’t had the opportunity to coach a blueblood. That is too good of an opportunity to pass up for some, and Beilein may relish the challenge of restoring Indiana to its former glory.

That said, there are a couple of problems that keep the Hoosiers at No. 3 on the list. For starters, the job may come open, but that’s certainly not a guarantee. Archie Miller is in his third season at the helm in Bloomington and is in a rebuild of his own, yet has drawn the ire of some fans following a 1-12 stretch last year and for potentially missing the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season this year.

If the Hoosiers do make the tournament, this is probably a moot point as Miller will be back. It may be anyway, but getting interest from a coach like Beilein could cause them to make a change.

There are some negatives that come with the Indiana job from the insane amount of pressure to win immediately (see the reason just explained as to why the job may be available) and, while Beilein certainly knows the Big Ten, he may not want to get right back in the conference to face a school he just left. I don’t know if there’s a loyalty factor to Michigan that would dissuade him from coaching another Big Ten school or not.

If Beilein wants to get right back into the thick of things in college basketball, Indiana would present him with the best opportunity to do so should the job become available.
