ACC Basketball Power Rankings: Duke Blue Devils gelling at the right time
11. Miami FL (13-12)(5-10)
The Hurricanes are happy to have strung together consecutive ACC wins after a prolonged stretch of struggles. Miami has knocked off Boston College and Wake Forest in consecutive games with their defense leading the charge. The Hurricanes have held opponents to 56.0 points per game over this two-game stretch freshman Isaiah Wong stepping up his scoring output. Wong is averaging 6.8 points but he is putting up 19.0 points per game over his last three contests. Wong has knocked down at one 3-pointer in every game since January 25.
Wong became the first Miami freshman to score 20 or more points in consecutive games since 2001. He went for 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting in a huge 85-58 win over Boston College and followed that up with 13 points on 50% shooting in a win over Wake Forest.
Junior center Rodney Miller has been the Hurricanes’ answer on the inside, averaging 0.8 blocks per game. Miller has had at least a block in every game since January 25th. He chipped in a near double-double with 8 points and 10 rebounds on 60% shooting in a convincing win over Wake Forest.
Miami’s offense is picking up at the right time but they have a daunting road ahead. They sit on perhaps the largest bubble in NCAA history and have three straight road games. Miami will need to win at least two of those games before a tough two-game stretch at home to close the season.
