Bracketology 2020: Providence, UCLA and Kansas among biggest winners
Kansas Jayhawks (23-3, 13-1 Big 12)
The matchup of the week was early Saturday when No. 1 Baylor took on No. 3 Kansas with a ton on the line. Had the Bears won, they would’ve not only all but clinched the Big 12 regular-season title but they also basically would lock up the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament, having a pair of wins over the Jayhawks to make their resume incomparable.
However, Udoka Azubuike had other plans. A dominant 23 point, 19 rebound performance from the senior center led the way for the Jayhawks in a 64-61 road win. Kansas had control for most of the bout but as expected of the No. 1 team, Baylor kept the game close all 40 minutes. The odds are great that these two will meet one more time in Kansas City for the Big 12 Tournament championship.
With this win over Baylor, combined with No. 2 Gonzaga falling to BYU, Kansas will be the No. 1 ranked team once again come Monday. But more importantly, they all but clinched themselves a spot on the 1 seed line on Selection Sunday. With 11 quad 1 wins (with the BYU looking great now), the Jayhawks are in great position the rest of the way. They can probably afford a couple of losses outside of Baylor to remain on top, giving them a great pathway to the Final Four.
