Former Kentucky Wildcat stars Hamidou Diallo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reunited in Oklahoma City last summer when the Thunder acquired Gilgeous-Alexander from the Los Angeles Clippers in a haul for Paul George.

Gilgeous-Alexander, the No. 11 pick in the 2018 NBA draft, earned All-Rookie second-team honors after starting the bulk of games last season for the Clippers. During his rookie campaign, he averaged 10.8 points and 3.3 assists per contest, according to Basketball-Reference.

He’s nearly doubled that production this season with the Thunder. Playing alongside Diallo and veteran All-Star Chris Paul, Gilgeous-Alexander has started every game and recorded 19.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game through the Thunder’s first 56 games.

Diallo has been with Oklahoma City since the Thunder acquired him from the Brooklyn Nets, who picked him No. 45 overall in the 2018 NBA draft. The 2019 dunk contest champion has appeared in fewer games this season than Gilgeous-Alexander, but he’s contributing 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in just shy of 19 minutes per game, according to Basketball-Reference.

Previously, Gilgeous-Alexander and Diallo played together at Kentucky in 2017-18. Alongside fellow lottery picks Kevin Knox and PJ Washington, they capped off a 26-11 season by winning the SEC Tournament and making a run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

It was then that Gilgeous-Alexander really elevated his NBA draft stock. Through three NCAA Tournament matchups, he averaged more than 20 points, six rebounds and six assists per game. In a second-round blowout of Buffalo, he dropped 27 points to go with 22 from Diallo.

On the season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 14.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game, according to Sports Reference. Diallo averaged 10 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Gilgeous-Alexander was named SEC Tournament MVP and made the All-SEC second team.
