Mid-Major Bracketology

It was a tough week for the Atlantic 10. At one point, it was looking like the A10 would be upwards of a four bid league. After this weekend, some experts are saying they are down to as little as one bid. Duquesne lost, albeit only by 10 to Dayton and the Dukes were probably already done anyway, but Rhode Island and Richmond’s losses were the truly rough ones, losing to Davidson in overtime and St. Bonaventure, respectively. I still think Rhode Island will make the tournament, as long as they don’t mess up even further, but that very well might be the only other A10 bid unless someone steals a bid.

Utah State and Saint Mary’s took care of business to stay on the right side of the bubble. Northern Iowa lost again, this time at Indiana State by three, so they might be in “must win the MWC Tournament” territory. Meanwhile, ETSU keeps winning, including a nine-point win versus Furman. They should probably win the SoCon Tournament anyway just to be safe, but a two-bid SoCon is once again in play.

As for the top dogs, despite the losses, Gonzaga and San Diego State still look to be in good shape for a top seed. That is probably mostly due to the fact that no one wants to step up and grab those spots for good, but they deserve to be up there just as much as anyone else at this point. Dayton is also lurking with a solid chance at a top-two seed.
