Michigan State Spartans (20-9, 12-6 Big Ten)

Every other week it feels like a declaration of the Spartans either being a Final Four contender or a potential early-round exit. They looked like the former this past week, getting a pair of Quad 1 victories over Iowa and Maryland, handling the Terrapins all 40 minutes. It improves Michigan State’s record to 7-8 against Quad 1 foes and has two more coming with Penn State and Ohio State on deck.

It’ll be interesting to see where Michigan State gets slotted in the NCAA Tournament, their metrics and numbers are going to have them either as a 3 or 4, with an outside shot of being a 2 seed if they win the Big Ten Tournament. But this past week more than likely solidifies them in the protected seed range, as long as they don’t take a bad loss in the next two weeks.

Oklahoma Sooners (18-11, 8-8 Big 12)

After losing to a bad Oklahoma State squad and being on a three-game losing streak, the Sooners found themselves on the outside of the bubble. The good news for them is that they took advantage of a pair of opportunities this week, beating both Texas Tech and West Virginia this past week. If you can’t beat Kansas or Baylor in the Big 12, these two are the next best resume builders one can have.

These were much-needed wins to bolster Oklahoma’s resume, now up to 5-9 vs Quad 1 opponents. They got Texas and TCU up next before the Big 12 Tournament, where they’ll probably have to win at least one game to feel safe about making the Big Dance. But in a week were many squandered their opportunities, the Sooners did everything right to give themselves an edge.
