4) Maryland’s comeback ability

Maryland‘s performance against Michigan State on Saturday was disappointing, to say the least. The Terrapins had a chance to inch even closer to a Big Ten regular-season title in front of their home crowd and instead fell flat on their face, trailing by double digits at halftime and never recovered.

That’s been unlike this Maryland team, as they’ve been the nation’s most prolific team at pulling off double-digit comebacks.

Against Minnesota on Wednesday, the Terps erased a 17-point deficit to beat Minnesota in the closing seconds, thanks to a three-pointer from Darryl Morsell.

It marked the third time this season Maryland came back from a deficit of at least 15 points to win, on top of the handful of other second-half comebacks they pulled off.

That never-say-die attitude is the result of having an experienced team (returned over 77 percent of their minutes from last year), a star duo in point guard Anthony Cowan and big man Jalen Smith, and a group of talented role players who have made a habit of stepping up.

Given that this year’s NCAA Tournament is expected to be crazy and unpredictable, it’s important for a team to be able to make up for some of their mistakes or a stretch of poor play. Maryland has proven they can do that.
