Bracketology Bubble Watch: UCLA, Texas trending upward
Lead-Pipe Locks: Dayton.
Safely in the field: None.
Some perspiration: None.
Double the deodorant: Richmond, Rhode Island
Richmond Spiders (23-7, NET: 42)
Bracketology Average: OUT (41/136 brackets)
Richmond is rolling right now (winners in eight of nine) while many other bubble teams are struggling. The problem, though, is that none of Richmond’s victories have moved the needle all that much. Pretty much every victory is just keeping the Spiders afloat along the cutline as nothing has been able to put them over the edge. Still, if Richmond is able to win its final regular-season game (at Duquesne), it will be 24-7 with a neutral-site win over Wisconsin on its resume heading into the A10 Tournament. I currently have Richmond among my “Last Four In” at this moment but a run to the A10 final should be the goal.
Rhode Island Rams (20-8, NET: 52)
Bracketology Average: OUT (41/136 brackets)
Rhode Island was once in pretty good shape to be the second bid for the A10 (in addition to Dayton). The Rams have now dropped three of their last five games, though, and are trending in the wrong direction. They are now just on the outside-looking-in of the field and need a strong closing week and a half. Thankfully, Rhody still has its home opportunity against Dayton left and a win in that one would be season-defining. The Rams also finish at UMass just a couple of days later. Rhody is not completely out of consideration if it loses to Dayton but it would need a big-time run in the A10 Tournament.
