Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

Beginning of the year prediction: North Carolina Central

Prediction now: North Carolina Central

North Carolina Central currently sits at 16-13 and the Eagles are tied for first in the MEAC with North Carolina A&T, a team they play on Thursday.

The biggest threat to NC Central’s hopes of getting a bid into the NCAA Tournament is North Carolina A&T, a team they lost by 17 to on February 17th. If the Eagles can manage to beat the Aggies on March 5th, they will be crowned the MEAC Regular Season Champions.

If they do manage to beat NC A&T this week, the Eagles will be in a great position with the MEAC Regular Season Title, heading into the conference tournament.

With three players averaging at least 10 points per game, including Jibri Blount who averages 19.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game, NC Central is a good team that should AT LEAST make it to the conference tournament championship.

At the end of the day the MEAC should be won by one of two teams, North Carolina Central or North Carolina A&T, who will come out on top remains to be seen, but I’m going with the Eagles in this one.

Southwestern Athletic Conference

Beginning of the year prediction: Grambling

Prediction now: Prairie View A&M

The Southwestern Athletic Conference is going to have one of the more interesting conference tournaments for the simple fact that so many of the teams in the SWAC are so close to one another.

If you wanted to, you could legitimately make a case for six different teams to win the SWAC Tournament. Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Southern, Grambling, Alcorn State and Jackson all have a very real chance to win this tournament.

Ultimately, I believe the team at the top of the conference right now, Prairie View A&M, will come away with the win and will, therefore, get into the NCAA Tournament.

Prairie View is the most consistent team in a bad conference and for that reason, they should be able to get the job done in the SWAC Tournament. The Panthers are one of only two teams who are above .500 and they’re six games above the mark.

That being said, plus the fact that they beat the other team (Grambling) who is above .500, TWICE, the safest bet for who will win the Southwestern Athletic Conference is the Prairie View A&M Panthers.
