Mid-major Basketball power rankings: Dayton, Gonzaga and ETSU rises up
19. Harvard Crimson (20-8, 9-4 Ivy League)
After a brutal road stretch that contributed to losing three of four games, Harvard since went on a six-game winning streak to essentially solidify themselves a spot in the Ivy League Tournament top-4. They’ve done this all without their injured star duo of Seth Towns and Bryce Aiken, with the depth that head coach Tommy Amaker recruited playing huge dividends in league play.
Solid defense combined with eight different players averaging at least six points a game have put the Crimson in a good position to make it back to the NCAA Tournament game. But the recent loss at home to Brown cost them a chance at a share of the regular-season title with Yale, who they take in the finale before the postseason tournament.
Harvard already has a win over the Bulldogs and split the regular-season series with Princeton, so they definitely have a shot to win the four-team event. With senior leadership, depth and great coaching, the Crimson should never be discounted, even without their two best players available. But they’ll need their two leading scorers, Noah Kirkwood and Chris Lewis to play some of their best basketball to get the wins.
