Ivy League Basketball: 2020 conference tournament preview and predictions
It Sounds Strange, but The Crimson Have Flown Under The Radar In The Ivy Despite Their Best Season In Years. Are They Capable of Recapturing Their Throne?
Despite the fluidity of their stars, Seth Towns and Bryce Aiken, Tommy Amaker’s Crimson squad was able to maintain status-quo throughout the 2019-20 season with less than what many had expected them to bring to the table.
With star guard Bryce Aiken only playing in 7 games, the Crimson had to rely on some familiar faces to help carry a bulk of the workload this season. Sophomore Noah Kirkwood was able to build upon a solid freshman season and was the teams leading scorer at 12.1 PPG if one were to not account for the here today, gone tonight season of Aiken.
Crimson lacks a true game-changing scorer, but what they bring to the table in place of that is the ability to spread the ball around and give multiple players touches which forces the opposing teams to scheme for multiple points of attack.
Seniors Chris Lewis (11.3), Robert Baker (7.0) Christian Juzang (6.7), and Justin Bassey (6.5) all present themselves as scoring threats capable of keeping defenders honest spread thin. Junior Rio Haskett has scored in double figures three of the last four regular-season games as well.
A player worth noting is Freshman Chris Ledlum. While his first season in Cambridge has had it’s up’s and down’s, he could provide the extra push the Crimson need. Currently a jack-of-all-trades, the Brooklyn native could tap into his strong finish to the regular season to help provide another weapon in the arsenal that Tommy Amaker will have.
