NCAA Basketball: A look at current coaching changes through Mid-March

UIC: Out: Steve McClain   In: TBD

Head coach Steve McClain was fired after five seasons at Illinois-Chicago on March 13. While the Flames won at least 10 Horizon League games in each of the last three seasons, they never reached the NCAA Tournament. UIC went 18-17 this past season and lost to Northern Kentucky in the conference tournament final. He was 76-93 with the Flames, going 42-48 in conference play overall.

UIC assistant Dee Brown, Milwaukee head coach Patrick Baldwin, Milwaukee, Oakland assistant coach Tony Jones, Ohio State assistant Terry Johnson, and Detroit Mercy assistant Tracy Dildy are potential candidates.

IUPUI:  Out: Jason Gardner  In: Byron Rim II (Interim)

Jason Gardner resigned as head coach in August following an OWI arrest. Assistant head coach Byron Rim II took over the reins on an interim basis and directed the Jaguars to a 7-25 record, which included posting a 3-15 mark in Horizon play. It is unknown at the present time if Rim will continue to serve as head coach. The 46 -year old does have a considerable amount of head coaching experience and is 189-246 over 15 years with stops at Texas College (NAIA), Jarvis Christian (NAIA), and Praire View A&M.

James Madison: Out: Louis Rowe  In: TBD

JMU and head coach Louis Rowe mutually agreed to part ways on March 9. The Dukes went 9-21 and 2-16 in the CAA, marking their worst season under the 47-year-old. Rowe never had a winning campaign and finished with a 43-85 mark in four seasons, which includes going 21-51 in conference play.

Drexel head coach Zach Spiker, Charleston head coach Earl Grant, and Delaware head coach Martin Inglesby, as well as JMU assistant Josh Oppenheimer and CB McGrath, are expected to be candidates.

Loyola Marymount: Out: Mike Dunlap  In: TBD

Loyola Marymount fired head coach Mike Dunlap after six seasons. Dunlap was 81-108 overall but finished below .500 in four of six campaigns and went to the postseason just once. The Lions finished this past season with an 11-21 record.

USC assistant Jason Hart, Santa Clara assistant Scott Garson, Oregon State assistant Greg Gottlieb, Cal Baptist head coach Rick Croy, Washington Wizards’ assistant Corey Gaines, and former Cal head coach Wyking Jones.
