487. . . . Golden Gophers . 12. team

MVP – Daniel Oturu

Oturu became an absolute beast inside this year for the Golden Gophers. After averaging just under 11 points a game last year, Oturu almost doubled that by scoring 20.1 points a game in his sophomore season. Add in 11.3 rebounds a game and 2.5 blocks and the inside was locked down when anyone played Minnesota.

Minnesota was just outside the bubble when the season came to an end but they were only that close because of how well Oturu played this year. The highlight of his great year was his 30 point and seven-rebound game against Michigan in their upset win over the Wolverines. Oturu showed just how dominant he could be inside in dominating the Wolverines. It was one of many great games for the sophomore and one that Gopher fans hope they can see next year if he doesn’t declare for the draft.

Best Moment – Beating Wisconsin 70-52

The Gophers had big wins over Michigan and Penn State and they also swept Ohio State. But the best performance Minnesota had this year was their 18 point win against eventual Big Ten champion Wisconsin.

Minnesota jumped out to an early lead and led by 13 at the break. They kept the Badgers from making any kind of run in the second half and rolled to an easy win. Payton Willis led the way for the Gophers with 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting including five three-pointers. Oturu chipped 17 points and 14 rebounds in yet another double-double. It was the best the Gophers looked all year.
