492. . . . Boilermakers . 10. team

MVP – Trevion Williams

In a year when many thought Nojel Eastern was supposed to break through for the Boilermakers, it ended up being Purdue’s big sophomore Williams who made the leap. Williams lead the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game while only averaging 21 minutes a game.

Williams was a force down low for the Boilermakers. He would also average 7.6 rebounds per game. His coming-out party was a huge 36 point, 20 rebound performance at Michigan in their double-overtime loss to the Wolverines. Williams single handily kept Purdue in that game and nearly helped them pull off the upset. He is setting himself up to be a big part of the Purdue offense in the 2020-21 season.

Best Moment – Beating Virginia by 29 points

Purdue had a strange year. They struggled to win on the road but almost upset Florida State in the Emerald Coast championship game. They also beat Iowa and Michigan State by at least 29 points. They swept Indiana, one ruing Bobby Knight’s return to Assembly Hall. But they also lost to Nebraska and only score 37 points against Illinois.

The top moment though was avenging their Elite Eight loss to Virginia when they whipped the Cavaliers by 29 at Mackey Arena. Virginia normally known for its outstanding defense were run out of the gym by the Boilermakers while only scoring 40 points of their own. Sasha Stefanovic led the way for Purdue, scoring 20 points by hitting six of his ten three-pointers. It might not have been the same Cavaliers team that beat them in the tournament, but it was a good revenge game for Purdue and a huge win.
