Virginia vs. Liberty

The matchup between these two talented and physical NCAA basketball teams would be for the Virginia state championship. Considering where both squads stood in the final edition of Bracketology, the only way this matchup would have taken place is if it were in the Second Round or later.

What makes this matchup intriguing is how much their Head Coaches know about each other, as well as how similar their defenses are. Head Coach, Ritchie McKay of Liberty, was an associate Head Coach of the Virginia Cavaliers underneath Virginia Head Coach, Tony Bennett, from 2009-2015.

The fact that both coaches worked together at Virginia really shows in their style of play as well. Both Virginia and Liberty overwhelm opposing offenses with a suffocating pack-line defense. Their effective running of such a defensive system has allowed both teams to rank 1st and 2nd nationally in points given up per game this season.

Due to how well they both play defense and the ability each has to muscle its opponents offensively, the game between these two would probably go down to the wire. The contest would be very low scoring, but I expect that it would go back and forth. For all NCAA basketball fans, this would be an extremely exciting game, but for the state of Virginia, the hype for such a matchup would be incredible.
