3) Another go-to scorer

Wesson has been and will continue to be Ohio State’s primary offensive threat but, as we’ve seen at times throughout his career, doesn’t always have the impact he should whether it be due to foul trouble, a lack of aggression, or a lack of touches.

When that happens, the Buckeyes aren’t nearly as effective, and we saw that in Big Ten play last season.

Towns will relieve a lot of that pressure for Wesson, and his ability to space the floor will give the senior big man even more room to operate in the post. As Towns told ESPN, it’s the perfect situation for him to step into.

"“It makes sense to me from a basketball standpoint. I’m really excited to play around the great pieces that we have coming back next year. It seems like a tailor-made situation for me to fit into. I’m excited to compete with those guys.”"

Ohio State will be Wesson’s team again but, if the Buckeyes need a basket on the perimeter or need someone to make a play off the bounce, the ball will be in Towns’ hands instead of Wesson. Having that second primary scorer is often the difference between good teams and great teams, and the Buckeyes now have another go-to guy.

The arrival of Towns doesn’t necessarily guarantee a long NCAA Tournament run for the Buckeyes, but it does make them extremely dangerous because of the scoring and lineup versatility he adds to an already great roster.
